Two years of firewood burned in the fire we had in April 2011. My son took this photo while everything burned. When you can detach yourself from the reality of the situation you can appreciate its beauty. We liked it so much we used this image on our Christmas cards that year.
We choose to live with more joy day in and day out, in good times and bad.
Life does not need to be smooth in order for us to choose to live with joy. A fire in April of 2011 burnt two years worth of stacked wood, our canoe, our kayak, our generator and our shed. Our boys were home alone at the time and had no idea of the fire outside our home. My husband and I arrived home to find all these items already engulfed in flames and were grateful our children were safe inside our home without any idea of what was going on outside. We called the fire department who came and sprayed water until the flames were extinguished. We were so grateful no one was hurt. Things can be replaced if you decide to replace them, people can’t. We knew even while everything was burning that we were blessed.
If this reflection brought a quiet moment of joy, let’s keep walking this path together — pausing, noticing, and finding wonder in the everyday.
